‘Ticket to Ride’ for musicians on Merseyside

It’s the bus giving aspiring musicians a ticket to ride on Merseyside.The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus launched in Liverpool today.

It promises to give young people a hands-on chance to make music, videos and computer games and it got the backing of John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono.

Yoko Ono has visited Liverpool to launch a bus which will tour Europe and be used by young people to make music.

John Lennon’s widow unveiled the bus at the Museum of Liverpool before it sets out for London and the rest of Europe.

Yoko Ono returned to the home of John Lennon to unveil a new bus dedicated to her husband’s memory.

The bus is dedicated to giving young people the chance to get involved with music, video, photography, game and broadcast projects inside the bus’s mobile recording studios. Its sister bus in the US was set up by Ono 16 years ago.

Ono will launch the bus at the Museum of Liverpool on May 8 before it embarks on a tour around schools, colleges and festivals across the UK and Europe, including a stint at London’s Southbank centre as part of the her Meltdown Festival in June, which will see a raft of artists including Patti Smith, Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, Iggy Pop and Savages perform. Brian Rothschild, Executive Director of the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus today announced that the U.S.-based charity will debut its new European tour bus at a ceremony to be held outside the Museum of Liverpool at Pier Head, Merseyside, England on May 8, 2013. The newly minted Lennon Bus — which is currently being outfitted with studio equipment by Sony Pro Europe — is intended to provide kids and students across the continent with a hands on digital media production experience. Fittingly, the state-of-the-art mobile studio is set to be unveiled in the “Capital City of Pop” by John Lennon’s widow and former creative partner, Yoko Ono Lennon.
